Newborn Winter Clothes Checklist
Guillaume Dls
The trees are shivering, nature is slowing down, the first snowflakes are gently falling... Winter is coming, and the season’s not alone: baby is about to be born!
But the excitement is coupled with a little apprehension. It has to be said that welcoming a little one during the winter season requires a bit of organization.
In particular, it's essential to plan the right wardrobe for the newborn, whose little body always needs to be warm. But don't panic, here's a list of clothes to plan for baby's arrival in winter.
Winter Clothes for Baby
As soon as you give birth, your baby needs to be warmed up as their body is not yet able to regulate its temperature normally. To welcome a baby in the best way possible during the cold season, you need to plan the right clothes.
Here's a list of indoor winter clothes for a newborn.
For a Boy :
- Three cotton rompers in pretty matte colors
- Three cotton or velvet pajamas with animal prints
- Three soft knit ensembles in shades of blue, ochre, or green
- Two pairs of warm sherpa socks or slippers
- An adorable wool birth bonnet
- A blanket for when you're carrying baby. Warning: To avoid the risk of suffocation, never let a newborn sleep alone with a blanket.
For a Girl :
Three organic cotton rompers in pink or pastel shades
Three cotton pajamas in nature prints
Three knitwear sets in floral motifs
Two pairs of cozy sherpa socks or slippers
A soft birth bonnet
A pretty candy-pink blanket
So much for basic indoor clothing! Don't hesitate to layer diapers, which you can remove or add according to the baby's needs.
How To Dress a Newborn for Winter Outings?
From the moment they’re born, baby will be discovering the world! For winter outings with your newborn, have them wear outerwear that won't let in the cold and damp. You can simply add outerwear over the clothes suggested above.
For winter outings with your baby, you'll need:
- A one- or two-piece snowsuit. It should be waterproof on the outside, made of something resilient like polyester, and warm on the inside, using a material like sherpa.
- For car travel, a coat that is compatible with a car seat is essential.
- Newborn snowsuits usually come with built-in booties or boots. If not, bring warm booties.
- Wool hat
- Mittens or winter gloves made of warm material, such as sherpa or fleece
- A blanket to complement the stroller's windscreen
And remember, just because it's cold doesn't mean baby is safe from the sun. To protect them from UV rays and the glare caused by the sun's reflection off the snow, don't forget a pair of sunglasses. A little sun cream on their nose is also a good idea!
Tips for Keeping Baby Warm
To help your little one's body regulate its temperature during the winter, in addition to anticipating the right wardrobe, follow these basic rules.
First, as a general rule, always cover your little one's extremities and head, especially outdoors. They are the most vulnerable to cold and frostbite!
Next, choose clothes that are easy to add or remove, for example, by favoring snap fasteners.
Choose natural materials rather than synthetics, which are more breathable and prevent baby from sweating.
Finally, choose garments with loose-fitting cuts so your little one is comfortable and can easily move around.
